A Hellish Purgatory: DOOM: The Dark Ages Unveils Revelations DLC and July Release Date
The Slayer is back, and id Software is not letting the blood dry. Following the massive success of DOOM: The Dark Ages, the developers utilized the Xbox Games Showcase stage to drop the first official trailer for the game's highly anticipated campaign expansion, titled Revelations.
Bethesda confirmed that the DLC will launch on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Revelations is not a lazy victory lap. It is a brutal, high-intensity continuation of the Slayer’s saga that introduces a brand-new combat dynamic, a deeper psychological story, and a massive update to the game’s custom arena mode.
Thrust Into Purgatory: The Slayer Betrayed
Revelations takes a surprisingly dark, introspective turn for the franchise. The trailer shows the Slayer wounded, betrayed, and trapped inside a merciless purgatory.
To escape this mental and physical prison, the Slayer must confront haunting truths about his past and forge a path forward with the help of a mysterious new ally. The final goal is as metal as it gets: ascending from the prison of his own mind to destroy a massive abomination of the gods, setting his remaining followers on the path to freedom.
Rather than just a simple retread of existing environments, Revelations introduces entirely new levels, deeper puzzles, and terrifying new demon variants (including the return of the classic Arch-vile) that will test your reflexes to their absolute limits.
The Chain Spear: A New Dimension of Combat
While the story setup is compelling, the real draw is how this DLC changes the way you fight. The biggest mechanical addition is the Chain Spear, a deadly new tool that completely redefines the Slayer's mobility.
The Chain Spear adds a high-speed grappling hook mechanic, letting players pull themselves toward enemies or zip around arenas to escape danger. It also features a defensive utility that allows the Slayer to parry melee attacks and deflect incoming projectiles back at the horde.
By rewarding mastery with enhanced power and movement speed, this weapon opens up a fresh, hyper-aggressive flow state that makes the base game's combat feel slow by comparison.
Ripatorium 3.0: Custom Carnage
Alongside the campaign content, the launch of Revelations brings the debut of Ripatorium 3.0, a massive free update designed for the game's arena mode.
This update introduces deeper customization tools, letting players build their own hellish encounters with improved passcode generation and the ability to save and load personal presets. For players who buy the Revelations DLC, Ripatorium 3.0 will also include three exclusive new maps, fresh demon configurations, and fully upgraded weapon options to play with.
Revelations will be available as a standalone purchase for $19.99, and is included automatically for owners of the Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade.
Hell Freezes Over in July
With a release date set for July 7, the wait is almost over. id Software is delivering exactly what fans want: more violence, deeper mechanics, and a weapon that makes shredding demons feel better than ever. Get your armor ready, because Hell is about to freeze over.
