Climbing the Ranks: Riot Games Unveils "The Climb," a Roguelite PvE Mode for 2XKO
For most fighting game players, entering the arena is a high-stress test of PvP reflexes. While testing your skill against human opponents is the heart of the genre, Riot Games is offering a fresh way to play. The developer has officially pulled back the curtain on "The Climb," a brand-new roguelite-inspired PvE mode for 2XKO.
The mode is scheduled to launch tomorrow, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, alongside Patch 1.2.3.
Rather than just a simple practice mode against brainless bots, "The Climb" is a fully realized, run-based experience that can be tackled either solo or with a partner in co-op. It represents a massive shift in how fighting games approach single-player content.
The Roguelite Loop: Branching Runs and Super Bosses
"The Climb" challenges players to fight their way through a series of increasingly difficult AI battles in a branching, run-based format.
After each victory, you select from randomized augments. These perks stack throughout your run, modifying your champion's kit, granting new properties to your specials, and unlocking wild combat synergies.
The mode is built on progression and replayability. Players can choose between beginner, intermediate, and advanced difficulty tiers, with each run culminating in a final, super-augmented boss fight at the summit. If you want to see how broken your favorite champion can become with the right combination of upgrades, this mode is your playground.
Survival and Campfires: Resource Management Matters
Unlike standard fighting game arcade modes, you cannot just coast through fights without thinking about the next round. In "The Climb," your resources carry over between matches.
Your health bar, Break meter, and Super meter do not automatically refill after a fight. If you take a beating in one round, you will start the next match in a weakened state.
To help players survive, the branching paths feature "Campfires." These rest stops allow you to heal up and recover, adding a layer of strategic decision-making to your route. You have to decide whether to take a riskier path for better augments or play it safe and heal at the next campfire.
A Bounty at the Summit
Riot is making sure that players have a reason to keep climbing. Completing missions within the mode will unlock a variety of unique cosmetics, including base chromas, avatar items, and stickers. Plus, playing the mode awards Battle Pass XP, letting you progress your season rewards without having to grind ranked queue.
To make tomorrow's update even bigger, "The Climb" launches on the exact same day that legendary Shadow Isles champions Senna and Thresh join the 2XKO roster.
Tomorrow We Climb
Riot Games is proving that fighting games can offer deep, engaging content outside of the competitive ladder. "The Climb" looks like a fantastic addition that will give players a fun, low-stress space to master their combos and experiment with wild setups. Patch 1.2.3 drops tomorrow, so get ready to start your ascent.
