Taking the Hunt to the Heavens: Capcom Announces Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance

Capcom is preparing to launch hunters into uncharted skies. At Summer Game Fest 2026, the developer announced Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a massive expansion slated for 2027. Following in the footsteps of Iceborne and Sunbreak, this expansion promises to elevate the hunting experience to literal new heights.

Hunters will be dragged to floating islands and forced to face legends that have not been seen in decades.

A Floating Sanctuary of Ancient Wyverians

The centerpiece of Ascendance is a brand-new locale situated high in the atmosphere. Hunters will navigate a stunning network of floating islands once inhabited by the ancient Wyverian civilization.

This vertical environment will require a complete rethink of movement and positioning. To help players survive these dizzying heights, Capcom is introducing the Boost Bracer. This forearm-mounted gadget grants hunters explosive aerial mobility, enabling rapid dodges and high-speed vertical lunges to keep pace with flying predators.

The Return of the Colossus: Lao-Shan Lung

A sky-based expansion needs colossal threats, and Capcom is delivering in spades. The reveal confirmed the return of two iconic Elder Dragons:

  • Lao-Shan Lung: The mountain-sized giant from the original generation makes his long-awaited return. Fighting this titan among the clouds will require massive siege weapons and flawless team coordination.
  • Kushala Daora: The metallic wind-controlling Elder Dragon is back to terrorize the skies, a fitting foe for a sky-bound playground.

Additionally, the expansion will introduce a mysterious new Flying Wyvern that uses unique air-storage organs to perform supersonic aerial assaults.

The Ascendance Breakdown

Capcom has locked down a massive array of features for this 2027 release:

The Verdict: The Ultimate Test of Skill

With the introduction of Master Rank, Ascendance is gearing up to be the ultimate test for veteran hunters. The combination of vertical aerial combat via the Boost Bracer and the return of colossal encounters like Lao-Shan Lung shows that Capcom is ready to stretch the Monster Hunter formula to its limits.

This is not just more of the same: it is a high-flying evolution that will redefine the hunt in 2027.
