The Legend Returns: Sega and RGG Studio Announce Virtua Fighter Crossroads

The pioneer of 3D fighters is officially clawing its way back to the stage. Sega announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads at Summer Game Fest, and the biggest surprise is who is building it: RGG Studio, the legendary team behind Like a Dragon.

This is not a simple port or a low-budget remaster. This is a complete reimagining.

RGG Studio Steps into the Ring

Sega is finally giving Virtua Fighter the respect and budget it deserves:

  • The Development Team: RGG Studio is taking over the reigns, which means the franchise will finally get a compelling single-player narrative campaign alongside its world-class competitive mode.
  • Release Target: The game is scheduled to launch in 2027, built from the ground up for modern platforms.
  • The Legacy: Originally teased as the "New Virtua Fighter Project," the official title Crossroads represents a turning point for the iconic fighting series.

The fighting game community is currently dominated by Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. While Virtua Fighter has always been the purist's dream, it has lacked the personality and flair to pull in casual audiences.
