The Summer Game Fest stage just witnessed one of the most surreal and audacious reveals in gaming history. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the brilliant minds behind the Like a Dragon series, has officially unveiled Stranger Than Heaven.

Slated for release on January 15, 2027, the game is set against the gritty backdrop of late 20th-century Japan.

But the real shocker is the cast: West Coast rap legends Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg are officially co-starring in this high-stakes gangster saga.

Bringing Legends to Life Respectfully

RGG Studio is not just throwing names around for cheap publicity. The integration of these hip-hop icons is a core part of the game's narrative fabric:

  • Tupac Shakur as Amaru: The late rap legend is digitally recreated as a prominent character named Amaru. The developers worked in close partnership with the Shakur estate, using archival footage and photos. Crucially, the team confirmed that no AI was used to create his likeness or performance.
  • Snoop Dogg's Role: Snoop Dogg appears in the game and is composing the official theme song. He also collaborated directly with the estate to ensure Tupac's inclusion was handled with absolute respect.
  • The Setting: A late 1990s Japanese gangster story featuring a cross-cultural cast of American and Japanese actors.
  • Day One Game Pass: Microsoft secured a major win by locking the game down for Xbox Game Pass on launch day, alongside PlayStation 5 and PC.

Let us be honest: on paper, putting 90s West Coast rap royalty into a Japanese gangster game sounds like a fever dream.

But if any team can pull off this level of theatrical absurdity, it is RGG Studio. Their track record of balancing dramatic narrative stakes with over-the-top character moments makes them the perfect developer for this project.

By avoiding lazy AI generation and working directly with the Shakur estate, they are showing the industry how to handle digital recreations with class. This is officially the most intriguing game of 2027.
